This Japanese Fire Department Fireman's Tool is from the John Plimpton Collection. Much of his collection was photographed for, and included in, his book 'Swords of the Emperor, A Guide to the Identification of Imperial Japanese Swords 1873-1945'. This firefighting tool measures 24 1/4" in length. This Fireman's Tool is unique in that the hook folds down. The hook has spring-resistance like on a pocket knife. Condition:This Japanese fire fighting tool is in exceptional condition. This is a beautiful condition example of a Meiji era (late 19th century) Japanese firefighting tool. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Japanese history from the John Plimpton Collection.
