Description: Original WW2 British infantry map of GERMANY entitled "BORKUM" which has been printed on the back of a captured German map covering an area of WALES. The British side of the map was printed in May 1945 as Germany surrendered. By this time, BORKUM ISLAND was already under British control, but unfortunately this came too late for seven recently downed US airmen who had not been afforded the usual rights of surrendered combatants. Instead, they were paraded in the streets by German soldiers who encouraged civilians to attack them before they were finally executed. The case became the subject of a War Crimes trial known as the 'Borkum Island War Crimes Trial'. The German side has been trimmed down to fit the smaller mobile Allied presses.
