For your consideration is this EMPTY authentic VINTAGE 1948 75+ year old WESTERN CARTRIDGES 25 AUTOMATIC 50 GRAIN METAL CASE CENTER FIRE ONE-PIECE iconic RED, YELLOW and BLUE “TARGET” and/or “BULLSEYE” logo CARTRIDGE BOX. I collected empty antique and vintage cartridge boxes for years and have recently decided to liquidate my collection. To that end, I will be sporadically listing these cartridge boxes so others can enjoy them as much as I have over the years. The RED, YELLOW and BLUE colored box features the iconic “TARGET” and/or “BULLSEYE” logo and is designed to hold 50 cartridges. Refer to description photos #1, #2 and #7 for more details about what I have described. The cartridge box measures approximately 3-1/16” long, 1-10/16” wide 1.0” tall. The one-piece box is constructed out of cardboard and has an insert cardboard tray that holds the fifty cartridges that originally came inside the box. Refer to description photos #13, #14 and #15 to confirm size dimensions and for more details about what I have described. While conducting internet research on the history of this cartridge box, I came across the “Maryland Shooters” website that provided the date code used by the Western Cartridge Co. since 1928. According to the code printed on this box, it dates back to either “1928” or “1948”. The aforementioned notwithstanding, because the Western Cartridge Co. date codes repeat every 20 years, being conservative and out of an abundance of caution, I am describing this box as being from “1948” with the understanding it may possibly be 20 years older. Per the website, the lot number printed on the box will have a “letter-letter-number” or “letter-letter-number-number” series that indicate the YEAR, MONTH and DAY the cartridges were manufactured. To that end, this box displays a date code of “BC22” (letter-letter-number-number) that is clearly printed on one end flap. This code translates to B=1928 or “1948”, C=“March” and “22” being “FEBRUARY 2nd”. Refer to description photo #11 for more details about what I have described. All the red, yellow, blue and black color print and graphics on the box remain vibrant and easily legible as can be confirmed in the description photos. The surfaces on the box show scattered light surface blemishes, edge wear and soiling that are all consistent with the box's age and prior use. Additionally, there appears to be an unknown “period” handwritten notation in red marker that was made across the lower half of the box top. Refer to description photos #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #7 for more details about what I have described. The top of the box is printed with information that reads as follows below. Refer to description photos #1 and #2 for more details about what I have described. “50 WESTERN CARTRIDGES” “25 AUTOMATIC” “50 GRAIN” “CENTER FIRE” “METAL CASE” “Lubaloy” “BULLET” “K1302T” The cartridge box remains in very good condition and structurally intact with no tears or repairs as can be confirmed in the description photos. The end flaps on the box are securely attached as can also be verified in the description photos. Refer to description photos #10, #11 and #12 for more details about the end flaps I described. The box features colorful printed information and graphics on all six sides. All the words and graphics remain legible and retain their vibrant colors as can be verified in the description photos. Refer to the description photos to confirm the condition of the box and for more details about what I have described. The inside of the box and inner tray both remain in very good clean condition with a few minor blemishes from prior use as are clearly depicted in description photo #10. Refer to all the description photos to confirm the condition of the cartridge box and for more details about what I have described. This colorful vintage cartridge box is a true survivor that any antique and/or vintage cartridge box collector would appreciate acquiring and adding to their collection as it displays beautifully. Refer to all the description photos to confirm the condition of the cartridge box and for more details about what I have described. Please look at the photos closely as they accurately confirm the condition of the vintage Western 25 Automatic cartridge box I describe and depict exactly what you will receive if you buy this piece.
