Description: Good condition for a very old electric tool. The drill does not have a cord but the wires coming from the armature assembly are present. Drill worked one year ago when it was tested by connecting to the existing wires. I cannot say if the drill works now. The drill does show signs of age and substantial use. See photos for more detail. Sold AS IS. The only marking on the drill is "442" on the top part of the drill. I think it is an A. C. Gilbert drill with a 3/8" chuck. A. C. Gilbert was known more for making toys like the original Erector Sets. The drill is basically an electric motor with a few gears, a D handle, an on/off switch and a chuck. Very primitive by today's standards. I found a similar one in my research but the handle of the one I found appeared to be either plastic or Bakelite. The handle on this drill is wood and appears to be a replacement. The one I found showed a label in the black part of the body of the drill that appears to be glued on rather than screwed down like many of drills of this era. One of the cap nuts on the handle end of the drill is missing and another one has been replaced with a regular nut. One cap nut on the bit end of the drill has been replaced with a non-matching nut. The information provided is as much as I know about the drill. It was given an older family member by an older relative in Pennsylvania. AS IS.
