Description: Vtg KING TUT EXHIBIT METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART MMA TIN Museum Admission BUTTON In 1976, the Metropolitan Museum of New York organized a nationwide tour of the Treasures of Tutankhamun, and NYC was the last stop in 1978This is a colorful metal admission button for the Metropolitan Museum of Art located on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Initiated in 1971, the metal buttons were given out with each ticket and required to be worn around the museum. Visitors were carefully watched by the museum security guards to ensure that each visitor's button was visible. Created in more than 16 different colors, the museum would rotate the color selection and use a different color every day. The museum ceased using them in 2013 due to rising cost of production. The button has had several design variations during this period, first and for many years with 'MMA' on a 1" diameter button, and also with 'MMA' on a 7/8" smaller button size. This design was later replaced with the Museum's distinctive letter "M", which was adapted from a woodcut illustration based on a Leonardo DaVinci drawing. There have also been button designs for special exhibitions such as the Treasures of Tutankhamun in 1976, as well as designs to commemorate both the 125th Anniversary of the Met in 1995 and the Millennium in 2000.Approximately 1" diameter (about the same diameter as a US quarter).
