Description: Vintage Cherry Red Bakelite Hourglass Egg Timer w/Lucite Rods - 5 Minute Game Timer Mrs. Edna's mom was the original owner of this item. Don't worry, mom is still here. She's pretty much a minimalist and likes to downsize her home one piece at a time. This week she decided to part with this vintage red bakelite timer. It can be used as an egg timer or for keeping time in games. It has been tested and appears to keep a fairly accurate 5 minute time frame, give or take a few seconds. The top and bottom of the timer are made of red bakelite. Mrs. Edna tested it with Simichrome polish, 409 and hot water, all which passed the bakelite test. The middle is hourglass shaped and seems to be made of glass filled with a fine grain white sand. The sand flows slowly and some grains at the end of the time will remain on the side of the glass. A gentle flick to the timer sends them down to the bottom. The three support pillars or rods are clear plastic, possibly made of lucite. There are no makers marks or country of origin indicated on this piece. The timer is in close to very good pre-owned vintage condition. There are no cracks, nicks, chips or repairs. There are signs of wear from age, use and storage, which includes but is not limited to some light surface scuff/scratch marks and extra glue residue from manufacturing and assembly.
