Description: HI! PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND IN ITS ENTIRETY! First things first. ON AUGUST 18, 2023, SOMEONE PURCHASED THIS BOX FOR $48,000. A few minutes later, he or she changed his or her mind, saying he or she placed the order by mistake. I allowed the person to cancel. If you really don't want something, $1 is too much to pay. Or maybe the buyer thought I would eventually offer a discount. I HAVE NEVER LOWERED THE PRICE ON ANY BUY IT NOW LISTING ON EBAY THE PAST 23 YEARS. Here's why. I am primarily an investor. In 1999, I decided to invest in Pokemon. I bought a lot. Singles, sets, boxes, even cases. English. Japanese, French. Spanish. Portuguese, even a little Italian. I believed in Pokemon 24 years ago. I believe in it now. As the Carpenters once sung, "we've only just begun." Pokemon has done better as an investment in the past 24 years than at least 97% of the stocks on the New York Stock Exchange, the S&P, or the NASDAQ. Over the next 24 years, I believe the same will be true. My investment model has always been the same for the past 30 years buy high; sell higher. Huh? What? When I spent a lot of money in 1999--and a little more in early 2000--I was told by a few "experts" that I was paying way too much for most of my Pokemon, especially my Japanese Pokemon. Here's the scoop: There are NO experts--in anything. For real. I am not an expert. I have made several mistakes along the Pokemon way. One of those Pokemon errors--not my fault, really--has cost me $300,000 and counting. But I do know this: a smart investor is sometimes wrong, but he or she is never afraid. End of lecture. This is a Buy It Now listing for one factory sealed booster box of the item that started it all--the 1996 Japanese Pokeom Base set, which came out in Japan in 1996. THIS IS THE ONLY BOX OF THIS THAT I AM SELLING IN MY LIFETIME. My four children will each inherit one sealed box of this. There are 60 packs in this box. For best results, DO NOT OPEN THE BOX. Will this double in value over the next five years? Triple? How the heck should I know? But I would rather have this than at least 97% of the stocks you can buy. Is Charizard ever going to have a bad year? I don't think so. Blastoise isn't going to either. Neither is Venusaur. About 16 months ago, a dealer I know had an investor friend who had just paid $45,000 each for five boxes of 1986-87 Fleer Basketball with Michael Jordan's rookie card, of which it is possible to get up to FIVE Jordan's in a box since there only 132 cards in the set (plus 11 sticker cards) and there were 36 packs of 12 cards each in a box.. He asked me if that was too much to pay? I said to him, if I had the money, I would buy them in a New York minute. Now, those boxes are around $135,000 each. AND THEY ARE GOING MUCH, MUCH HIGHER. I EXPECT THOSE 1986-87 FLEER BASKETBALL BOXES TO FETCH AT LEAST $400,000 EACH BEFORE THIS DECADE IS OVER--MAYBE MORE. For real. Buy high, sell higher. Buy high, sell higher. Buy high, sell higher. Get the idea? I could cite you a thousand examples of this, but it would bore me as much as it would bore you. Economists and investment counselors always talk about supply and demand. WRONG. The equation for collectibles is DEMAND AND DEMAND. Rare stuff in demand goes higher. Supply is MEANINGLESS if there is no demand. I never in the past 30 years buy anything that's going down in value. Never. THIS IS A BUY IT NOW LISTING. I never discount any of my Buy It Now listings. All my prices are fair. Because they have to be. This is not a hobby. THIS IS HOW I HAVE TO EARN A LIVING the past 27 years, including the last 23 years on eBay. When I sell, I am just reducing my cost on the items I have already invested in. THERE ARE 60 PACKS IN THIS BOX. If the average holds true, 20 of the 60 packs will contain a holo. Since I am still alive, I have to earn a living. That means I have to sell my items in a timely manner. Otherwise, my wife will say something like this: "Hey, Jerry, when are you going to make a deposit at the bank?" Fortunately that has not happened too often in the past 27 years. This has been owned by me for nearly 24 years. The box is in excellent shape-- a few very minor bumps but the plastic is still intact just like it was in 1999 when I purchased it. The price is $48,000. Not a penny more, not a penny less. So, please do not ask for a lower price. If I don't sell this in my lifetime, my kids will have one more of this to sell. Let them fight it out. But consider this: The vast majority of people on the planet over the age of 10 have NEVER owned a single Pokemon card, no matter what language it is printed in. And the early Japanese series are running out. EVEN IN JAPAN! POKEMON HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN AND THE SUPPLY OF SEALED EARLY JAPANESE BOXES IS ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. Now, finally, the rules: 1) No discount. 2) Please add $424.00 for insured shipping with signature required and sent by registered mail if you live in the continental U.S. 3) Payment is due within three days of purchase. 4) Paypal preferred, but other forms of payment are fine, too. 5) I am proud of my feedback on Ebay, encompassing more than 7,300 separate transactions over the past 23 years. If you have a couple more minutes, please check my other listings. 6) I specialize in rare but (generally) affordable collectibles and memorabilia with major focus on five things: sports cards, framed and unframed photos, Beanie Babies, Marilyn Monroe items (somebody has to do it!), and Pokemon cards and plush. 7) The most important rule of all--DON'T FORGET RULE NUMBER ONE! Thanks for reading this far. And if you have a question, please ask. Stay safe. Jerry P.S. Double boxed and carefully packed. In the 56 days since I listed this, there are already 24 people asking for a lower price. And two others who have made offers to buy it. I don't know when I will sell this, but I predict the person who does buy it is NOT one of the 27 people as of September 7, 2023 already asking for a lower price. Always the way. P.P.S. I was contacted on June 14 by someone who believes--based on the bottom type written on the box--that this may contain SHORT CRIMP packs. He is not certain and neither am I. If I knew this indeed were a super rare short crimp box, my price would be at least $140,000. Or more. Of course, the only way to find out would be to open the box and see. I am not ready to do that. Are you? If you are and you open the box and it turns out these are short crimp packs, you will be able to sell each of the 60 packs for $3000 or so. NOW. Not 10 or 20 years from now. And the approximately 20 heavy weight packs? You should be able to get AT LEAST $5,000 each! Do you feel lucky?
