Description: USS Tullibee SS-284 memorial submarine first day cover with a postmark from Keystone, SD on June 14, 2024. Blue printed photo of submarine on cachet #3119 by Alvin Eckert #9964 USCS. Cover franked with 73 cent flag stamp # 5875 (FDOI) and a 3 cent USN stamp # 935. This fighting vessel fought in WW II in the Pacific Theater. The 311 foot Gato Class diesel submarine was built in Maine and commissioned 4 June 1943. She was ordered to the South Pacific in the middle of the fighting period. She sank several hostile vessels during her first three patrols. During her fourth patrol this brave fighting submarine sank when struck by the circular route of her own torpedo on 26 March 1944 off Palau. Only one crewman survived. We are proud of these "Greatest Generation" sailors and their sacrifice to win WW II. Seller has over 200 different submarine covers. Check out my other items!
