Description: TWA Silver-Plate Plaque/Platter presented to War Hero, author, Political/Civil Rights Icon and Business executive George Washington Lee (1894-1976) "Lieutenant Lee of Beale Street" ~ Grand Commissioner of Education for Exceptional Service to the Afro-American Community in the important area of cultural development. 12" scratched and tarnished. Note: Lee was the First African - American to have a portrait in the Rotunda of the Tennessee State Capitol. Lee was also the first African American to have a US post office named after him. In 1919 Lee was awarded the French Croix de guerre medal for bravery. His was the Senior Vice President of Atlanta Life Insurance Company until his death in 1976.
