THE SPIDER 1930s Pulp Magazine Carroll & Graf PB (1991-93) Reprints UPick/Choice

Description: Your Choice / UPick / You Pick ~ Each THE SPIDER: Master of Men Carroll & Graf Paperback Pulp Reprints (1991-1993) Since the 1960's, several paperback publishers began attempts at reprinting the class Spider pulps (to capitalize on the popularity of Bantam's Doc Savage reprints), but none were even reasonably successful, most lasting only for a few issues... and took liberties with the original pulp text. Then in 1991 Carroll & Graf took on this classic pulp hero and published sixteen of the original adventures into eight (double-story) books - complete with the original pulp cover illustrations! Uncommon, even then, these pulp reprints are becoming increasingly scarce to find. From the Wiki: The Spider was created in 1933 by Harry Steeger at Popular Publications as direct competition to Street and Smith Publications' vigilante hero, the Shadow. Though similar, The Spider was millionaire playboy Richard Wentworth, who had served as a major in World War I, and was living in New York City unaffected by the financial deprivations of the Great Depression. The ninth pulp represents him as the last surviving member of a rich family. The Spider stories often involved a bizarre menace to the country and a criminal conspiracy, and were often extremely violent, with the villains engaging in wanton slaughter of thousands as part of sometimes nationwide crime sprees: pulp magazine historian Ed Hulse notes that "Spider novel death tolls routinely ran into the thousands". The master criminal of the stories was usually unmasked only in the last few pages. The stories often ended with Wentworth killing the villains and stamping their corpses' foreheads with his "Spider" mark. Grant Stockbridge is listed as the author, but this was a house pen-name used by about a dozen different writers during The Spider's original run from 1933 to 1943. The Spider sold well during the 1930s, and copies are still valued by modern pulp magazine collectors. Hulse has stated "Today, hero-pulp fans value The Spider more than any single-character magazine save The Shadow and Doc Savage." All items have been careful examined for condition and graded to the best of my ability and will be mailed 5th Class Book/Media rate, unless otherwise stated No Stock Photographs ~ The item pictured is the one that you will receive! Tired of eBay sellers that can’t be bothered to take the time to write a proper and CORRECT item description and provide detail photographs of their items? Check my eBay store and feel secure knowing that the item you buy from me will arrive “As Described”! We recently moved and it's time to start doing some more downsizing! ************************** Check our other auctions and our new expanded eBay store to see all of our other Cosplay, Victorian/Edwardian, Fantasy, Gothic, Historical, Steampunk and other Costume, Vintage and Plus-Sized Fashion sewing patterns! Overseas buyers welcome! We don't cross-post every item we sell also on eBay UK, so please check our eBay Store to see all of the books, sewing patterns and other items available this week ~ ~ ~ Rules of the Road: (No one ever seems to read this section… :/) · We’ve been buying and selling on eBay for over twenty years now… but this is a hobby, we are not professionals. If there is a problem – LET US KNOW ASAP and we will try to resolve the situation to everyone’s satisfaction · We try to take multiple detail photos of items to improve the buyer’s appraisal of the item and carefully describe items to the best of our ability. Email us if you have any questions before you purchase or bid! · We are switching (still in progress) to WEIGHT calculated shipping, thus purchases of multiple purchased items (like patterns or pond plants) should show significant shipping savings – If this does not calculate correctly, contact us and request a shipping adjustment. · Items are normally shipped out for US buyers via online eBay/USPS First Class Mail (under 1 pound) or Priority Mail (over 1 pound) and without shipping insurance or delivery confirmation, unless the buyer requests otherwise. 99% of shipped items should display a USPS Tracking Number! This way we can avoid those insane shipping charges that a lot of eBay sellers tack on to your purchase! Books, Magazines and DVD’s are normally shipped in a padded envelope via 5th Class/MEDIA MAIL. Media mail can be slower than 1st Class/Priority Mail… sometimes MUCH slower. Since in most cases, the seller (me) has offered free shipping on this item, PLEASE be patient and wait for your item to arrive. · International buyers can track shipment via their Customs online tracking number, but remember a delay in customs (here and there) of up to a FULL MONTH is possible - and entirely and completely beyond my control! We also CANNOT be responsible for any customs import fees, if applicable! Feedback Policy… I’ve tried to manually keep up with buyer feedback, but often it gets away from me. Also due to recent inaccurate buyer feedback abuse, I’m migrating to eBay’s automated feedback system – A buyer gives us positive feedback and eBay should now automatically send you back immediate positive feedback! Everything else, I’ll try and keep up with manually. Email us if we’ve missed rewarding a good buyer! Concerning Returns... For many years, we had a 14-Day return policy... and almost never had any problems. Now, eBay is trying to force sellers to move to a 30-Day return policy... and our problems have since skyrocketed, as some buyers now briefly 'rent' a new item and return it as used... or return a completely different item instead. So, reluctantly... we now decline most returns - except in these specific circumstances: Item arrives broken/defective due to USPS malfeasanceIncorrect item received or not as described - hopefully this should NEVER happen Buyer's remorse is not an acceptable reason for requesting a return/refund! Why the usual ten-day shipping/handling delay on the Estimated Delivery date? I have a screwy work schedule and sometimes have to make sudden out of town trips or work crazy hours six or seven days a week. This unfortunately means that while usually I can mail out your item within a few days, sometimes it will be slower - up to a full week or occasionally even longer. Our local post office also has extremely limited hours and is rarely prompt after receiving packages – they can sit there, untouched, sometimes for 2-3 days before going to the main USPS distribution center. My usual eBay mailing days are on Monday & Tuesday Send me a separate email via Contact Seller if you require expedited shipping! USPS has recently raised its US and Overseas mail shipping rates again… and significantly. Also, for some reason using online postage it costs me exactly as much to mail to Canada as anywhere else in the world! 800x600 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
