His early interest in ducking beganunder his father's guidance at the age of sixyears while living at Love Point, Maryland onKent Island. As he spent time in the woodsand fields with his brother Charles, more thana youthful fascination in birds developed.His parents encouraged this interest with thegift of a set of books on birds when he waseight years old. That original set initiateda life-long study of birdlife and a personallibrary on birds that has grown to over fivehundred titles.Henry is a member of the AdvisoryBoard of the Ward Foundation in Salisbury.Maryland; an active member of the MarylandOrnithological Society, and a member of theArtifacts Committee of the Easton WaterfowlFestival in Easton, Maryland. His first bookDecoys in the Mid-Atlantic Region (1979.Schiffer Publishing Ltd.) has been widelypraised for its thorough study of the workingbird decoys from New Jersey to NorthCarolina. In it he illustrates over seven hun-dred and fifty decoys and includes biogra-phies of the best known makers. He was acontributing author to the book ChesapeakeBay Decoys, edited by R. H. Richardson, andhis pen and ink drawings illustrate the bookon the Ward Brothers, Pioneer Decoy Carvers.He has written a number of articles on decoysfor periodicals in the decoy world. He hasreturned to the lovely Eastern Shore ofMaryland and resides in East New Marketwhere he runs an antique business with hiswife Barbara and their two children, Joshuaand Kate.
