Rare Revolutionary War Era c.1760's French Four Ball Knuckle Grip Naval Cutlass by Klingenthal Click images to enlarge Description For Consideration is a Rare Untouched Revolutionary War Era ca.1760 French Four Ball Knuckle Grip Naval Cutlass by the Klingenthal Factory! c1760's Circa 1760's French Naval Cutlass Sword with 4-Ball Brass Knuckle guard, carved dyed bone grip. The Rare Klingenthal curved single edge blade measures 23.0 inches, and the overall size of this sword is 28.0 inches. Blade has signs of etchings and a name along the sides though heavily worn from age and military use. The dyed brown bone grip shows etched decoration and the blade is signed by the "Klingenthal"company on the outer spine. This Sword was found in the attic of a period home in Bedford Massachusetts in the 1980's and is in its original untouched condition with a solid and patinaed 4-Ball Steel knuckle guard. The blade is worn and slightly rounded at the end as this was a heavily used naval sword. Just the slightest bit of movement by the grip. The Klingenthal swords were significant during the Revolutionary War, particularly for their use by American forces. These swords were produced at the Klingenthal factory in France, which was renowned for its high-quality blades. The factory was established in 1730 and became a major supplier of swords to the French military and, by extension, to American forces during the Revolutionary War. A nice "as found" untouched example of a Revolutionary War Era French made Naval Cutlass which had previously been on display in a Private Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts.
