Description: This auction is for a rare and stunning artist signed Japanese Meiji period hand wrought sterling silver tiger's head ring. This nice piece was purchased from a prominent Washington D.C. estate. This fabulous antique Japanese ring was made by a true master of his craft. The ring depicts a highly detailed ominous tiger in a defensive posture. His eyes are sharp and as are his teeth in a slightly open mouth pose. The artist chases the silver simulating graining texture and fur with his use of non-modern tooling. This superb ring measures .775 or approx. 21mm on the inner diameter of the band which translates to a 10.5 to an 11 sized ring. As the ring is photo'd, the ring measures 31mm in height and has a length of approx. 35mm. It is a very large, slightly gaudy ring! It weighs almost an ounce at 0.8 or 22.6 grams. It has a great untouched patina. The ring is signed with the Mon or Monsho mark with is interpreted as family crest; figures and the Jungin mark which indicates high quality silver. This mark was used during the Meiji period 1865-1912. It is in amazing condition without damage. This is truly a masterpiece from a master artesian and will be a great addition to your Japanese Meiji period silver collection.
