Description: Exceptionally Rare Jennings Brothers Bookends Model #1925Features Cast Metal Nude Male Figures Reading a Book while SeatedI mean who doesn't read this way? Just saying! One is in Exceptional Condition, one is in Good ConditionApprox: 7.5" H x 4.375" W x 4" D, 3 lbs & 3.2 lbsJust Reduced! Quite Rare Collector's Find! The Jennings Brothers, Bridgeport Conn, (1892-1953) have long been known by collectors for their art quality pieces like these bookends, but they made many other items highly sought by collectors as well. You can research more on them online of course. It appears there have only been 3 sets of this JB's model #1925 ever offered on eBay and two are being offered now (odd but true). We took pictures from all sides and in slightly different lighting to try to capture the feel for the pieces. One of our pair is in overall exceptional condition and better than the any other ones currently or ever listed for sale on eBay. Our second one is very nice, but has some finish or brass tone coating loss around neck and it may have had a repair at neck area during production (hard to determine). This defect appears to have been somewhat common to the production of these as the only other listed sale on eBay had both bookends with unfinished areas around neck as this has (certainly odd). There seems to be a slight crack on back shoulder, but again, not sure it really effects the stability of the piece or it's appeal as it is very solid. These bookends like many of the JB's pieces had multiple seams when cast, so perhaps that was the cause of the slight flaws in production that allowed some coating loss and seam offsets. We searched back over 20 years of eBay records and other sites and could not find any other another ones of this model offered. We cannot say with 100% certainty that there have not been others sold, but if there have been, it was very few. We have a number of pay sites as well, and none showed up there. The seated reader is attached by a screw or other to base, and there is a slight movement to each, but they are solidly in place. Neither bookend is artist stamped, but the artist appears to be C. Mosman, as the other set offered does have a signature mark. We are not sure of casting metal used on these, but they do not attract to a magnet, the bottom of bases do. The bases may tin or steel, one has a cloth or phelt coating, the other does not. The one without phelt on bottom is a few ounces heavier than the other. This model is similar to the "The Thinker" statue that Jennings Brothers issued but "The Thinker" models are much more common. They issued a small child model "Learning to Write" which is somewhat rare as well, but not quite as rare as this #1925 Model. If collectors may know more about this model and have positive comments, we will be happy to include in our listing after information is verified.
