ALSO NOTE THAT THERE ARE ALMOST IDENTICAL, BUT SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT COLOR PAINTIINGS DIFFERING, FOR EXAMPLE BY THE "MURDER"( NAME FOR A GROUP OF CROWS) OF CROWS IN FRONT OF THE DISTRAUGHT LAMB AND ITS APPARENT MOTHER BY THE SAME AND DIFFERENT ARTISTS.ONE OF THESE VERSIONS HANGS IN THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA, MELBORNE, ANOTHER IN MUSEE D'ORSAY. IT APPEARS, MOROEVER, THAT THE 1885 "L'ORPHELIN IS IN FACT A REVERSE OF SCHNECK'S ALMOST SIMILAR 1878 PAINTING WHICH IS THE WORK HANGING IN THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA. THIS PHOTOGRAUVE IS AN AUTHENTIC PRINTING FROM THE SALON DE 1885 IN 1885 AND A FIRST AND LIMITED EDITION. Schenck was born in Germany, then Denmark, but lived and worked most of his life in France. He was awarded a Knight of the Legion of Honour and other awards.
