Description: Photograph Notes: Inside the little factory, the cheesemakers are cutting up the solid curd, ready to turn it into cheese. Having faced closure in the depression of the 1930s, local man Kit Calvert raised enough money and local support to buy the firm out and continued making the famous cheese. Having saved the name it was sold to the Milk Marketing Board in 1966, which then passed onto Dairy Crest in 1979; however, by 1992 the company was closed again, with the loss of dozens of jobs. Once again local pride refused to let it die, and a small group bought it out. Nowadays the workforce numbers over 200 and the brand is renown for being Wallace and Gromits favourite!
