Description: For sale is a superb painting by the Ontario Canada And New York Post Impressionist Landscape artist William Alexander Drake. (1891 - 1979) Provenance: Private Art collection: Larchmont , Westchester County, New York This painting features a Post Impressionist view of two tall trees standing in a lush open meadow with an old stone building church in the distance and a small red cottage just to the right Here the artist draws the viewers attention to the tall trees. The way the artist captures the affect of light onto the leafy tall trees is quite impressive. The painting then draws you up to the sky with gorgeous blues and light white wispy clouds above. Done in a multitude of wonderful hues of greens and yellows. Signed and dated 1964 by the artist in the lower left corner. Framed in a contemporary new picture frame. While the frame is appropriate enough it is decorative and added for the purpose of displaying this painting. It is not original and could easily be replaced. Condition: Excellent Measurements Framed - 23” x 19” Canvas Board - 20” x 16” William Alexander Drake (1891 - 1979) Born in Toronto Canada Drake studied at the Ontario College of Art He painted in a post impressionist style for much of his career and won several “All Canada Exposition” awards for his paintings. After some time he left Ontario for New York City where he became a staff artist for NBC Studios painting many of the set designs and backdrops. He also worked on many Broadway plays as the Artistic Supervisor Becoming a member of the United Scenic Arts Union. He painted throughout his career and returned to Ontario often to paint. He painted in a post impressionistic style which had very bold colorful thick brush strokes. His pallet was often lush pastel colors in thick impasto strokes. Drake painted primarily in oils but also produced some lovely Watercolor works as well He passed away in 1979 in New Jersey and was buried in his native Ontario Canada at Roches Point. An area he captured quite often in his paintings.
