Description: OLAB Solenoid service/rebuild kit to suit all 900 series Breville Dual Boiler coffee machines. The solenoid coil and core from this kit can also be used on the Barista Express BES860 and BES870 models. All parts are brand new und unused. The date of manufacture on the coils is 2016, however this has no effect on the performance as they have not been put through any use and have been stored correctly. They still have their full lifespan ahead of them. When you hear an angry sound from your Breville coffee machine with little or no water coming out of the grouphead, the likelihood of the issue being the solenoid is pretty high. Have a listen to your machine while the noise occurs - if it's coming from the back, it's the pump, but if it's coming from the top and toward the front, it's the solenoid. The sound can be described as a buzzing or "electric" sound, whereas the pump will sound more aggressive and louder, like a tiny jackhammer. This kit includes everything you need to rebuild your solenoid assembly. The main culprits of a bad solenoid are the coil, the core and the seals, all of which are replaceable and included in this kit. We even include a pair of brass vent pins because we know how likely the original ones are to fall and get lost forever while removing the seals from your solenoid. The kit includes everything you see in the photos:1 x OLAB Series 9000 solenoid coil1 x OLAB core1 x Retaining nut1 x tension washer2 x PTFE seals2 x brass vent pins If you're curious as to what causes solenoid issues or how to know if you need this kit, please read on: Solenoids have a lifespan of about 30,000 cycles, so it stands to reason that they will eventually wear out with use. The coil acts as an electromagnet that moves the core inside of the core housing. This acts like a switch would, either letting water pass or closing the port. Your solenoid can fail if the coil has lived through it's lifespan, or has been saturated with water causing it to short, or if the core has corroded or it's spring becomes weak and no longer can withstand the right amount of tension (there are 2 springs, one outside the core and one inside - the inside one is usually the most vulnerable). The best thing to do before you hit that buy button is to pull your solenoid apart first once you have it out and inspect it. In all the above scenarios, you'll need this kit. However, if you don't backflush your machine as often as you should with a cleaning agent like Cafetto, there's a chance that your solenoid is just gunked up and the core is struggling to move. In this case, do the folowing:Pull your solenoid apart, boil some water, add some Cafetto to it and drop all the metal parts (not the coil) into the water and let it sit for about 30mins. This should eat away all of the coffee residue. Take the parts out of the solution and rinse them well under warm, running water.Dry them off, re-assemble them and re-install them in your machine 7 times out of 10, this will resolve your issue and you won't need to buy this kit. Trust us, we've been repairing these machines and much higher end commercial and domestic machines for a long time at our workshop, and more often than not, this is what the issue is. No parts needed. Give it a shot and come back to this kit if you're still having issues. Or, reach out to us if you have any questions!
