Description: Mike Schmidt #17 1988 Donruss Pop-Up Item is Near Mint or better SAMPLES in the scan, BUT the single NAMED PLAYER ONLY. From a set of 64 All-Stars and 20 'Pop-Up' cards. This set and the 1989 version contained standard sized cards unlike the Donruss 1983 to 1987 All-Stars which were larger 3-1/2" x 5" cards. While somewhat similar in design to the standard 1988 Donruss set, these were issued separately in packs including five All-Stars and one pop-up. Wade Boggs and Ozzie Smith, the 'Top Vote Getter' for each league, have a second regular card. The 'Pop-Up' cards have a die cut design around the player and can be folded to stand up and away from the background. Sometimes the unnumbered 1988 and 1989 'Pop-Up' cards can be misidentified. These can be distinguished by the two red dots only on the front name banner of the 1988 Pop-Up. On the back, 1988 cards have a 1987 Leaf copyright and 1989 cards have a 1988 Leaf copyright. The Pop-Ups represent the starting lineups from the All-Star game plus the managers. These have no numbers but have been assigned #'s by the Beckett guides according to the listing of the regular All-Stars cards. This means the AL player Pop-Ups actually are listed with the same number as their All-Star card but the NL Pop-Ups are not, as the entire AL team roster preceeds the NL listing in the All-Star set.
