Description: This really nice 3 rail AC HO gauge loco by Marklin is 3179 a DB BR 132 / E32 electric loco in green livery. It has running number 132 103-3. In 1978, the VEB Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke "Hans Beimler" Hennigsdorf (LEW), the only manufacturer of electric locomotives in the GDR, was commissioned to develop a lighter and more technically modern four-axle variant for passenger and medium-heavy freight train service based on the proven heavy freight train locomotive of the 250 series. This was to be able to replace the locomotives of the 211 series in express train service and the 242 series in freight train service without operational restrictions . The mechanical components were developed and manufactured in Hennigsdorf. The traction motors came from the VEB Sachsenwerk Dresden . The prototype 212 001 was presented to the public at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1982. The locomotive attracted attention primarily due to its attractive exterior (white with red stripes) and was nicknamed the White Lady by visitors. The electric locomotive of the BR 212/243 series was awarded the Good Design prize for its design at the spring fair Since the DR had assumed until recently that the expansion of the transit routes to West Berlin and their electrification would be financed by the Federal Republic, the expansion of certain sections of the route to speeds of over 120 km/h did not begin until 1991. Since the Deutsche Reichsbahn did not have any sufficiently fast locomotives available, new vehicles had to be purchased. The 212 series was originally designed for 160 km/h. After four pre-series locomotives were delivered in 1990 (212 002 to 212 005, the serial number 001 was not reassigned because the 243 001 was previously designated as 212 001), 35 series locomotives were delivered from 1991, already designated as 112 006 to 040. The 35 locomotives of the 212.0 series (from 1992 series 112.0) were first used on the Berlin-Dresden route, which has now been upgraded to 160 km/h. The 112 became a symbol of German unity , as it was the first locomotive series to be jointly purchased by both railway administrations. It was agreed that the DR and DB would each order 45 locomotives of the slightly improved 112.1 series from AEG Schienenfahrzeuge . In the meantime, AEG had taken back its factory in Hennigsdorf , which had been expropriated in 1946. A number remain in preservation and some in operation. The loco is in good condition as you can see in the pictures, We are unable to test it as we do not have a three rail AC test rig or track, so we have not tested it but can see no reason why it would not run. It is sold in untested condition, this means that it may not run, and as such it is not being sold in running condition. However a complete external visual inspection has shown no reason why this loco would not run and the overall condition is very good. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition, the inner liner is starting to slightly go yellow. Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout. Do please have a look at my other listings, I typically have various HO and OO locos on offer as well as an extensive range of imported N gauge locos and other items. Note: I do recommend all locos are cleaned & serviced, as they have some age to them even if the quality looks at the highest level (fairly standard advice for all locos!).
