Overall group about very good.A substantial group of original photographs documenting a General Motors automotive assembly line producing the circa-1983 Chevrolet S-10 compact pickup truck and its variant models, the S-10 Blazer and S-15 GMC Jimmy, identical vehicles branded separately by GM, and the very first in the then-emergent compact sport utility class (SUV).Notations here are plentiful but seem mostly to be for internal reference. A place is not explicitly identified, but a desk calendar visible in one image reads “September 1983,” the first year of production for the S-10 Blazer and S-15 Jimmy, which were assembled in Shreveport, Louisiana and Pontiac, Michigan. Repeated mention of buildings 37 and 25 in the photo notations suggests to us the more sprawling Pontiac facility (its “Assembly West” complex to be specific) as the most likely site for what we see here.The photographs focus closely on computer-driven process control systems and their elaborate networks of relays, switches, valves etc… contributing to the automation of welding and other assembly tasks.
