Description: Six piece sterling silver place setting in the John Wendt bird pattern that is remarkably similar and may have been retailed as Tiffany Audubon. Patented in 1865, this highly aesthetic movement pattern was manufactured by a little known New York Silversmith, who generally did not mark his wares. These pieces were mostly retailed by JE Caldwell, but given their similarity to the later Tiffany Audubon pattern, it is reasonable to assume that Tiffany may have purchased the dies when it changed it’s Japanese pattern to Audubon. Regardless, this set comprises a 4.75 inch coffee spoon, a 6 inch teaspoon, a 7 inch place spoon, a 6.5 inch luncheon, fork or salad fork, a 7 inch dinner, fork, and an 8 inch all sterling knife. Lot weighs 7.8 ounces. Each piece is in generally good condition with light wear to the diecast decoration and a very aesthetic style monogram to the reverse.Multiple place settings are available as are other flatware and serving pieces. A remarkable and very early sterling silver place setting. Buyer to pay $18.95insured priority shipping within the US or 1 pound priority international.
