Description: This is a vintage antique sample of patented antique barbed wire. This sample features a Chester A. Hodge patent, dated August 02, 1887. This wire is called "Hodge's Ten Point Sheet Metal Spur Rowel Barb on Two Twisted Lines" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 733-B). This wire features two twisted together round line wires. Barbs are ten pointed made by cutting points on the perimeter of a round piece of sheet metal. Barbs are pierced at center and placed on a wire axle that has each end clamped to opposite line wires. Sample is 18" in length. Wire sample shows light pitting, and has all points intact. There are five barbing wheels. Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered. There is some bending of line wires, but there are no bent, broken or missing barbing points.
