Description: I found Brown Countys in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas, South Dakota, Florida, Kansas, Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio, and Indiana. This “Greetings from Brown County”, published by the “Tichnor Bros.” was postmarked in Columbus, Indiana. Brown County Indiana has a population of 15,475. The county seat (and the only incorporated town) is Nashville. The United States acquired the land from the Native Americans, part of which forms the southwest section of what is now Brown County Indiana, in the 1809 “Treaty of Fort Wayne”. No settler was allowed in the area until the government survey was completed in 1820. The first two settlers to arrive in the area was a German, Johann Schoonover, who lived on what is now called Schoonover Creek and William Elkins who cleared land and built a log cabin. The earliest pioneers came from Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and the Carolinas. In 1836, the legislature established Brown County. The United States census of 1840 reported 2,364 in the area. This Linen is postmarked 1950 and is in excellent condition with minor wear and a clean, clear image. There is a message sent to Edith and Thalia Hart in Flint Mich. and the reverse is clean.
