Description: Unstretched oil on canvas, 24" by 36", the subject a seductive young nude woman sprawled on a bed, signed at lower right in red by listed French artist Georges Guinegault (1893-1982). The artist was born in Rennes, France and enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. By the year 1920 he was exhibiting at the Paris salons. A member of the Societes des Artistes Francais, Guinegault painted nudes and landscapes, many of North Africa, so he can be considered an Orientalist. His trademark nudes are among his best recognized works, and they are in the style of Jean-Gabriel Domergue---even the signature resembling that of Domergue. This piece will need to be stretched. As it may have been rolled at one time, there is evidence of that in places, but essentially the piece is in very displayable condition, though varnish and light touch-up would help.
