Description: This book is in NEAR PERFECT condition with no markings inside or out and no attached bookplates. There is a very faint smokiness to it if you hold the book up to your nose and fan the pages while smelling it. I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise, but I do this to all the books I put up for sale. It is quite mild, but if you are extremely bothered by this sort of thing, it should be taken into consideration. This is a somewhat common book as Easton Press books go, but this particular copy is exemplary, and the commonality doesn't diminish the fact that it is a gorgeous masterpiece of literature and bookmaking. I've only taken one picture of the illustrations as an example of both them and the typography. The illustrations are numerous and stylistically appropriate to the point of sublime ubiquity. As solid and tight as a brick, it feels unread. Definitive level edition. COMBINED SHIPPING is always active, and if you buy 5 or more together, FREE SHIPPING!! Please feel free to check out the over 500 different premium collectible books I have for sale right now, nearly all of which are LIKE NEW or actually BRAND NEW and unopened. The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, also known as Tristram Shandy, is a novel by Laurence Sterne, inspired by Don Quixote. It was published in nine volumes, the first two appearing in 1759, and seven others following over the next seven years. It purports to be a biography of the eponymous character. Its style is marked by digression, double entendre, and graphic devices. The first edition was printed by Ann Ward on Coney Street, York. Sterne had read widely, which is reflected in Tristram Shandy. Many of his similes, for instance, are reminiscent of the works of the metaphysical poets of the 17th century, and the novel as a whole, with its focus on the problems of language, has constant regard for John Locke's theories in An Essay Concerning Human Understanding. Arthur Schopenhauer called Tristram Shandy one of "the four immortal romances."
