Bound in hunter green leather, the book has decorative paper end leave, satin book marker, gold gilt on three edges---in FINE condition. Francois Auguste Rene Rodin, who lived from 1840-1917, was a French artist, the son of a police official. In 1860, his first portrait was of his father, Jean Baptiste. Rodin worked for a mediocre sculptor, Carrier-Belleuse, until 1870. In 1880, Rodin received commissions for "The Gates of Hell," "The Thinker,"and "Adam, or the First Man." From 1884-1886, Rodin worked on the sculptures, "The Burghers of Calais," unveiling the sculpture in his native town of Calais, France. In 1886, he casted "The Kiss." During the 1900 World Fair, Rodin showed two hundred works in a rotunda, among then "The Walking Dead." In 1904, Rodin refused the money paid by the French government for "The Gates of Hell." In 1917, upon his death, Hotel Biron was made into a Rodin Museum. 96 pages. I offer combined shipping.
