Rare Early Regiment Marked M1898 Dutch Klewang Sword & Scabbard by Luneschloss of Solingen Click images to enlarge Description Up for Consideration is a Scarce, Early Example Regiment Marked M1898 Dutch Klewang Naval Cutlass Sword & Scabbard (Most likely) by P. D. Lüneschloss of Solingen c1898-1914 A Rare example of the M1898 Dutch klewang Naval Cutlass Sword, most likely made by Luneschloss of Solingen. This is an earlier model with ribbed hardwood grip, and the scabbard appears to be period to the sword, so this particular weapon may have been in service for decades. The edge is service sharpened and remains quite sharp, with some small edge nicks in a few places. The blade is totally solid in the hilt and the hilt is all tight. The wooden grip is in good condition and on the underside of the steel guard is a brass plate with regimental numbers. The leather scabbard with brass reinforcement is in very good condition and has rack and regimental markings as well. The blade is an even dark gray patina with some minor signs of pitting and a bit of rust more at the start of the riasco. It is also obvious that the maker marks on both sides of the riasco have been removed, though faint signs of this still can be seen (note images), The Sword is very solid with no movement on the blade or hilt. A very nice example of the pattern and much rarer than the later slab-grip types.
