Description: Description:This is a nice antiquarian set of Duruy’s General HIstory of the World. It has 4 volumes and contains the translation of Duruy’s original French work in an English translation by Edwin Grosvenor, published in 1912. There are a number of black and white illustrations and several fold-out maps in each volume. These are leather-bound hardcover books with spine and corners in a dark tan color and marbled paper covers. They are in good antiquarian condition with a few defects as noted below. They measure about 5 x 7 inches. Victor Duruy was an interesting French statesman. Born into the mid-19th century middle class, he was befriended by Napoleon III and rose to become the Minister of Education for many years, introducing a number of reforms to French schools. He wrote a number of well-regarded histories as well. Condition: This old set is in good condition for its age. The pages are generally clean, show little handling use, and there are no odors, There is some toning and a little foxing. The first page/frontispiece of the first volume is unattached and the title page is torn. The bindings are intact with some looseness of the inner hinges. The leather binding would benefit from conditioning but is generally good with several sections that have darkened with age. There are a few binding blemishes on the corners. The top edges have noticeable rubbing. Overall, this is a nice set in good condition with some wear and a few things to note. (Please see photos for details.) All books are wrapped and packed carefully in cardboard to ensure their safe arrival.____________________________________Okay, here are all those pesky little details: Payment:I ask that you pay within 3 days. If you are having an unexpected delay, just email me to let me know. Life happens, but communication can solve almost any confusion. I do combine postage on multiple items going to the same address. Just email me to let me know so I can send you a revised invoice with the adjusted postage.Nonpayment:I am a pretty easygoing person, but if I haven't either received payment within 3 days or heard from you, I have to assume you aren't planning on actually making the purchase. This means I'll have to follow eBay procedures for nonpayment of an item.Shipping:I always choose the least expensive form of shipping in order to save you money. The U.S. Post Office provides great service and their package tracking is free on all your purchases. However, sometimes speed is more important and I am happy to upgrade your shipping options if you can pay for the additional costs. If you contact me BEFORE payment, I am happy to set up alternative shipping methods, such as FedEx or UPS. I am an excellent packager and have a good supply of mostly recycled packaging supplies. I assure you I will take great care when I pack up your items. I've never had any damages yet! I go to the Post Office almost every day, so you can be sure that your item will be packed up and on its way to you either the same day or by the end of the next business day. Customer Service/Communication:Please remember, I have no control over the speed of the shipping once I drop your package off at the Post Office. I ship quickly on my end, but sometimes "stuff happens" during transit. I'm so sorry, but remember, it wasn't me. I personally hate it when I don't know what's going on with my online orders. Therefore I make sure to send you plenty of emails to let you know the details of your payments and the status of your shipment. Before you leave negative feedback, please email me first. I can usually figure out a solution to just about anything! And if you have any questions at all I am always happy to answer them.Returns:I want my customers to be happy with their purchases so I stand behind what I sell. If you are unhappy with your purchase within 30 days, you may return it; buyer pays postage. If I have made any errors in my description, I will pay the postage myself.Feedback:What makes eBay work is its feedback system. Please remember to leave honest and fair feedback promptly and I will do the same for you! Thanks for visiting The Occasional Something!Come again! _gsrx_vers_1678 (GS 9.8.2 (1678))
