Description: This is a custom 1/6 scale 12" figure commemorating one of the most colorful characters in history, Scottish sailor Captain William Kidd. Kidd was born around 1655 and died May 23rd, 1701. Kidd's father was lost at sea when Kidd was younger and his family was supported by a local society. Kidd moved to New York City when he was older. It is thought that he became a seaman's apprentice on a pirate ship about this time. In 1869 William Kidd was a member of a French-English pirate crew sailing in the Caribbean under Captain Jean Fantin. Kidd and other crew members would mutiny and take control of the ship. The mutineers would sail the ship to a British colony of Nevis. There Kidd became Captain and the ship was renamed Blessed William. Captain Kidd was an experienced sailor and leader by that time. Blessed William would be part of a small fleet under the control of Christopher Codrington governor of Nevis. Since the British and French were at war the small fleet was charged with protecting the colony from the French. The crew was not paid but compensated by raiding and plundering the French. Throughout his life Captain Kidd and his crew would capture many prizes. Captain Kidd was very well thought of and gained much attention with his exploits. He would marry a wealthy widow with much political power. He became a pirate hunter as well. Captain Kidd (though some believed him innocent) was actually charged with piracy and executed May 23rd 1701. Captain Kidd was a very interesting person from history. Please note that while this figure does not look exactly like Captain Kidd there is a bit of a resemblance and the figure displays nicely. stand included. sold as is.This figure is designed mostly for display and would make a nice addition to any collection. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thank you for the look, enjoy shopping!
