Description: Wellcome to my store. Caesalpinia pulcherrima RED Bird of Paradise Barbados Peacock Flower Seeds 50+ Red Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia Pulcherrima) is a flowering broadleaf evergreen shrub native to tropical and subtropical climates. Unlike many tropical plants, it has a good tolerance for drought, making it a favorite for desert landscapes. Red Bird of Paradise is extremely hardy, easy to care for and affordable. Also known as Pride of Barbados or Peacock Flower, this is a popular shrub for tall hedges and screens in warm climate zones 9 and above. They are very popular in the dry southwestern states, including Arizona and New Mexico. These bright and showy shrubs can be planted between lawns or as a border around a pool or as a chain link fence screen. They also provide great coverage if you need to disguise an air conditioning unit or utility element. Replenish them with a mild organic fertilizer or compost every 1-2 months, depending on your location and season. Fertilize frequently during the growing season and in hot and bright climates. What is Caesalpinia pulcherrima used for? Bark is used to treat diarrhoea. The flowers are effective against intestinal worms and heal wounds. The leaves are believed to have purgative properties and are used for abortion and fever. West Indians make a decoction of flowers and leaves to cure fever. Mexican Red Bird of Paradise Seed Germination Step 1: Use sandpaper to gently sand the outer surface of each seed. This is called scarification of the seed and helps the seed absorb water for germination. Step 2: Soak the scarred seeds of the Mexican bird of paradise in a bowl of warm water for several hours. Step 3: Plant the soaked seeds in well-drained soil in a sunny location, or plant the seeds in a container filled with regular potting soil. Seeds should be planted 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. Water the planted seeds to moisten the soil, and keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate. When Mexican bird of paradise seedlings are several inches tall, allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. As mature plants, Mexican bird of paradise prefers dry soil between waterings and is drought tolerant. Thank you so much for visiting my store!!!!
