Description: This antique Elgin pocket watch from 1918 features a silver nickel swing out case with a screw front and Arabic numerals on a white porcelain dial. It has a 12-hour dial, lever escapement, and a mechanical manual movement with 7 jewels. The Elgin 16S 7J Hunter Grade 290 is a casual style pocket watch manufactured in the United States. It is not water-resistant and comes without papers, service records, original box, or manual. The watch is in running condition and maintains accurate time. The movement has been completely disassembled, cleaned, and re-lubricated. The balance did need a little work to be able to run accurately and to allow regulation. The movement now runs for over 33 hours on a full wind and is keeping very accurate time. All the parts appear to be original and I repaired none of the parts other than adjusting the balance. The dial is in very good to excellent condition. Very white and I can see no hairlines. The hands are blueish and are in good shape. (Please see the pictures). The case is not hunter style but a simple Illinois nickel swing out case. I purchased recently and it was in rough shape. The back of the case is stamped with "Illinois Watch Case Company". It did polish up nicely. The hinge has some age but is funtional. The sleeve in the stem seems to be a worn and at times the stem pulls out, but after replacing the stem the movement can be easily set and wound. The glass does have some scratches from age.
