Description: Early Odd Fellows Carved Wood Folk Art Staff with Several Symbols and the Irish Claddagh before the Heart in Hand Symbol It measures 14 inches. High There is a hole in the bottom where a stick or rod might have gone. It looks like it has Odd Fellows symbols all over it. There are 3 chain links, 3 columns, 2 hands holding a heart - the Irish Claddagh meaning love and friendship, which is probably the origin of the heart in hand Odd Fellow symbol, and a beehive. There are other symbols that have not been identified. The wood looks really old like early New England furniture with a great patina! We don't know anything about where it came from or who owned it except it came from an estate sale with no owner history. Condition wise some of the intertwined links have cracked and are loose. We have not attempted repair or clean this item. A small string is tied to the top which may have been used to hang it. This is a such an interesting piece that looks like it belongs in a Philadelphia museum. Please feel free to ask any questions or for any photos. Cheers!
