The "Ode To A Confederate Bill" is beautifully written and is a very rare civil war document, coming from one who experienced the war. The paper on which the "Ode" and the picture of a confederate $5 bill was printed, is very heavy and very old. Upon reading the "Ode", one realizes that the author, John Hickman, is with the Union and that he wrote this "Ode" after the war ended in honor of his fellow americans from the south. 2. Since John Hickman used the confederate $5 bill as the theme for his "Ode", we have included a similar, authentic, confederate $5 bill in this sale. The confederate $5 Bill included in this sale, is dated DECEMBER, 1863 and is uncirculated making it a valuable collectible in and of itself. Our research on this document leads us to believe that the author of the "Ode", John Hickman, is the same John Hickman that received the Medal Of Honor from Abraham Lincoln on March 14, 1863.
