Eighty-three-year-old Anton Kmiecik, above left, has spent most of this life farming the land originally homesteaded by his family, who moved to the New Waverly area from Poland. "Life here is as simple as ever," says Kmiecik, who is working on a history of the town. "People here have always been hard working and peaceful." At right is New Waverly Mayor Ed Palmer.
