Product Details YAMAHA SA-60 Natural (1973 Model) Body Material: Birch & Beech (Semi-Hollow, Center Block Adoption in 1973) Neck: Set Maple Neck Fingerboard: Rosewood Pickups: Original (HH, Passive) Weight: Approx. 3.8 kg Condition Grade: 4 [EX+] (Excellent for its vintage, with only minor signs of aging) Color: Natural / Wood Grain This guitar is a rare, first-year semi-hollow model from 1973, when YAMAHA transitioned from a full hollow body to a center-block design. According to the serial number, it dates to 1973, and the pickups (marked 49.5.29) indicate 1974 production. Part of the well-known SA series that debuted in 1967, it became a standard model in YAMAHA’s lineup. The headstock features original die-cast tuners with torque adjustment. The body uses birch and beech, beautifully arched for both the top and back—a truly rare build. The set neck is crafted from maple; the fingerboard is a high-quality rosewood that emulates the texture of rare tonewoods. It also comes with the original black pickguard, a collectible rarity. As you can see, the metal parts still shine brilliantly. The tuners show slight clouding, but the pickup covers are still glossy. Aside from a missing wooden cover on the tailpiece and a replaced jack (the original jack is included), this guitar has maintained its original condition. The sound is warm and powerful, with excellent tonal balance. The sharp groove from the bridge pickup and sweet, mellow, bluesy tones from the neck pickup offer a vintage semi-hollow character that modern guitars struggle to replicate. The frets remain at about 80% with no obvious dents. We have performed necessary wiring adjustments and jack replacement to ensure optimal playability. The scale is about 628 mm, nut width about 42.5 mm, and the string action at the 12th fret is around 2 mm for the 6th string and 1.5 mm for the 1st string. The neck is straight with no warping, and overall playability is superb. A rare original hard case from that era is included. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to own a truly special vintage instrument!
