1955, On Beyond Zebra by Dr. Seuss, HBw/dj, FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, VG

Description: Recently 6 Dr. Seuss books were taken out of print due to racist imagery. Subsequently, many web sites also banned the sale of these books. One of the six was the first children’s book Dr. Seuss published, “And To Think I Saw it on Mulberry Street”. Another was the book of this listing, "On Beyond Zebra" which looked whimsically on 20 possible letters beyond Z in the alphabet. This book was first published in 1955. The racist image was of the “Nazzim of Bazzim,” a figure of unspecified nationality riding a camel-like creature called a “Spazzim.” I suppose this was "Orientalist" inappropriate imagery. The page with that image is provided as the last photo in this listing. This copy has the key FIRST EDITION POINTS including the list of books on back of dust jacket and back of board listing to Horton Hears a Who! from, And To Think I Saw It On Mulberry Street. The other key first edition point is the "250/250" on front flap upper right. This dust jacket was price clipped, but as seen in the close-up, the bottom edge of the first "2" can be seen and it is between the "R" and the "A" in ZEBRA. For comparison, I've included a photo from another listing showing the positioning of this "250/250" and it is seen that the 2 is indeed between the "R" and the "A". The book is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. It was found with the dust jacket preserved in a mylar jacket. there is wear along the edges and corners, heaviest at the corners and top/bottom of spine with a few tiny chips and tears, very colorful and clean in the mylar jacket. As noted, the front flap is price-clipped. The boards also are clean with light to moderate corner and edge wear. Very clean pages, no interior marks, A NICE COPY! BB7
