Hallowell, of Baltimore, Maryland, and his son, Barry, 12, were at the controls of Engine 6538 before the first postwar "off-the-beaten-path" tour of the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society left from the Broad Street Station, April 13. Hallowell's father operated the locomotive on the old New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk railroad and he asked the Pennsylvania Railroad to use it on the special 182-mile trip.
