1939 Argosy Weekly - Edgar Rice Burroughs "Synthetic Men of Mars"

Description: This auction is for the complete six part serial of Edgar Rice Burroughs "The Synthetic Men of Mars" which appeared in the Argosy Weekly Magazine, Jan. 7, 14, 21, 28; Feb. 4, 11, 1939. The six installments are wrapped in the cover (front and back) of the Jan. 7 issue that the first part appeared in. The cover and pages are all loose leaf but are complete and in order. As is the case with many of ERB's tales, this pulp magazine serial was the first time in print. The condition of the loose leaf portfolio is very good and complete, although not attached. The pages are yellowed with flaking edges but still supple and easy to read. The front cover is very nice and bright with artwork by Rudolph Belarski; the interior artwork was done by Samuel Cahan (one B/W per installment). The loose leaf portfolio will be carefully packaged and shipped free of charge with insurance anywhere in the USA via USPS Priority Mail box. NOTE: After receiving questions about the quality of the magazine, I decided to do some conservation of my own. I used Scotch book tape to reinforce the spine of the text pages, then I stapled the spine through the tape and pages with two (2) 3/8" staples. Next I carefully taped the spine of the cover together from both sides, inside and out. Then I applied a layer of PH neutral PVA bookbinding adhesive to the inside spine of the cover and laid in the text pages, carefully folding the cover over the text. Finally, I clamped the spine and let set overnight. It turned out very nicely, I think!! I have included extra pics of the process and the final product.
