Description: Fortune Chevalier arrived in San Francisco in 1852 at the age of 30 and worked several jobs before setting up a liquor store in 1857 in Placerville. He later worked for a wholesaler in Sacramento. The F. Chevalier Co. was born when Fortune partnered with his brother Albert and set up a wholesale business on Front Street. They bought an interest in the Castle Distillery in KY and by 1880 purchased the "Old Castle" brand outright. They went on to own vineyards and became a major presence on the West coast. It is a story rich in history. I love that his name was Fortune. Here we have the more fancy of the flasks with the double ring neck. It is boldly embossed “F. CHEVALIER CO WHISKEY MERCHANTS SAN FRANCISCO”. This is a sparkler standing 7 ¾” tall and 3 ½” wide in a light amber color. It has a couple of haze spots inside but it is otherwise shiny clean. There is a scratchy rough flaw on the bottom but no damage. There were numerous other bottles from this company so this can be the start to your Fortune as well.
