Bird’s-Eye View of Stockholm, Sweden Date: 1897 Medium: Stereoview on printed mount Size of Image: na Size of Mount: 3 1/2 x 7 inches Condition: Rich tonal image, light aging, mount shows some rubbing, edges/corners lightly rubbed/bumped Other: Nice panoramic stereoview of Stockholm, Sweden in 1897 showing a large elevated viewing platform overlooking the city. Most likely a part of the Stockholm Exhibition or Stockholm World’s Fair of that year. John F. Jarvis began as a supplier of photographic materials in Omaha in the 1860s where he met William Henry Jackson and his brother. In 1870 he moved to Washington, D.C. and began a long career of both producing his own images as well as publishing the works of others. He was considered the largest manufacturer of views of the Washington area, however, he also produced series from the British Isles, Palestine, Powell Survey (works by Hillers, Beaman, Fennimore, Thomson), Belgium, the Spanish American War, and many others.
