Sir Nathan Wright (1654–1721) was an English lawyer and politician who served as Lord Keeper of the Great Seal under King William III and Queen Anne. He rose through the legal ranks quickly, becoming Solicitor General in 1688 and later Lord Chief Justice of England from 1705 to 1710. Known for his Tory affiliations, Wright made significant contributions to English jurisprudence despite facing criticism for alleged corruption during his tenure. He retired from public life after the fall of the Tory ministry and died in 1721. Three folios, each volume lacking exterior binding and free endpapers. Frontispiece engraving for the first part detached, trimmed and laid in. Some rubbing and wear, some soiling, foxing and discoloration, repairs, occasional marginalia, else in good condition. These volumes comprise cases heard in the Court of King's Bench during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and the formative years of King James I. Crooke's reports are esteemed as invaluable sources for comprehending English common law and legal practices of his era. Offering insights into the courts' decisions and reasoning, they illuminate the legal issues and societal challenges confronting individuals and communities.
